Jurassic Park

Eccentric billionaire John Hammond has cloned living dinosaurs from preserved DNA and built a theme park on a remote island. He invites a select group of experts to preview it — and then everything goes catastrophically wrong. Steven Spielberg's landmark film holds up because it never loses sight of the wonder at its center — the T-Rex reveal remains one of cinema's great held-breath moments — while being a genuinely frightening and brilliantly paced thriller about human hubris and the chaos of nature.

Pulp Fiction

The film announced a new voice in American cinema and its influence on independent film storytelling and popular culture in the 1990s cannot be overstated. Samuel L. Jackson's Jules Winnfield reciting Ezekiel 25:17 before a hit remains one of cinema's most iconic scenes.

Frank Darabont's film is cinema's most beloved drama — a story about hope institutional cruelty and the unkillable human spirit anchored by two of the greatest performances in American cinema.

Inception

Dom Cobb is the world's best extractor — a thief who steals secrets from the subconscious during the dream state. His skills have made him a fugitive unable to return to his children. He is offered a chance at redemption: not extraction but inception — planting an idea in a target's mind rather than stealing one. To pull off this impossible task Cobb assembles a specialist team and descends through multiple layers of dreaming each more unstable and dangerous than the last. Christopher Nolan's labyrinthine blockbuster is simultaneously the most commercially successful art film and the most emotionally grounded puzzle box in cinema history.

Interstellar

Former NASA pilot Cooper discovers a secret government program and is recruited to lead a crew through a wormhole near Saturn in search of habitable planets. The mission will require Cooper to leave his children — possibly forever — and cross into dimensions of space and time that human physics cannot predict. Christopher Nolan's most emotionally ambitious film combines hard science fiction with a deeply felt father-daughter story whose climax reaches across time itself.

The Matrix
